January 27, 2012 has been designated by the United States Senate as a “National Day of Remembrance for Americans who, during the Cold War, worked and lived downwind from nuclear testing sites and were adversely affected by the radiation exposure…”
This date marks the 61st anniversary of the first nuclear weapon test in Nevada. The event will include comments by local religious leaders, inspirational music and a solemn reading of the names of Downwinders.
Please join us in remembering…We dare not forget.
Utah Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (UCAN)
Membership meeting Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 5 pm at Jane's House, 1229 E. S. Temple, SLC. We plan a short business meeting at the beginning primarily to discuss our website. Then we will have a program created by Andy Schoenberg and Gail Blattenberger, "Progress and Challenges to a Nuclear Weapon Free World." Only Andy will be out of town, so I'll present Andy's portion--using the slides he has prepared for the program. Gail continues to gather great information, including lots of possible budget cuts that would help our nation meet human needs, rather than feed the nuclear weapon beast.
